Best Engagement Photo Locations in Washington
From a photographer who knows how these actually shoot
Washington is one of the best places for engagement photos because you can get water, city, forest, mountains, and wide-open fields all within a short drive. Choosing a location isn’t about picking what looks good on Instagram.
It’s about choosing a place that matches your vibe and actually works for photos.
Here are some of my go-to spots (including a few hidden gems).
Ferry Sessions | Coastal & Beachy Vibes
One of the most underrated ways to turn your engagement session into an experience.
You get:
Water views in every direction
Natural movement (wind, candid moments)
Skyline + mountain backdrops depending on the route
👉 My take: This is a mini adventure. Perfect for couples who want to combine thier session with a dinner date in the destination city.
Discovery Park (Seattle)
This is one of the most versatile locations in Seattle.
You get:
Beach
Forest
Open fields
Bluff + water views
👉 My take: If you’re unsure what you want, this is where I take you. It gives you everything in one session.
Volunteer Park (Seattle)
Soft, romantic, and slightly more structured.
You get:
Historic architecture
The conservatory (glass house)
Clean, green backdrops
👉 My take: Perfect for couples who want something timeless
Wellington Hills
(Woodinville – Abandoned & Overgrown)
One of my favorite under-the-radar locations right now.
What used to be a golf course has turned into:
Rolling, overgrown fields
Open sky
Soft, glowy light
👉 My take: It’s wild but elevated—less polished than traditional parks, but still incredibly photogenic
Wayne Golf Course (Bothell)
A true hidden gem.
You get:
Tall, overgrown grass
Open, wild space
Soft, natural textures
👉 My take: This gives you that editorial, barefoot-in-a-field energy without going far.
Leavenworth
(Destination Feel Without Leaving the State)
Leavenworth feels like a destination.
You get:
Bavarian-style architecture
Mountain backdrops
River access
Strong seasonal vibes
👉 My take: Perfect if you want your engagement session to feel like a weekend experience, not just a shoot.
How I Help You Choose
When couples ask me where to go, I break it down like this:
Want movement + something unique? → Ferry
Want variety + nature? → Discovery Park
Want romantic + structured? → Volunteer Park
Want wild + editorial? → Bothell or Wellington Hills
Want clean + open + golden light? → Woodinville
Want destination vibes? → Leavenworth
My Biggest Tip
Pick a location that feels like something you would actually do together.
Not just what looks good online.
Because the best photos come from:
Movement
Comfort
Real interaction
